Wondering what you could do this summer that is unusual, helpful, and downright fun?  How about walking the streets of New York City.  At night.  In a bra.   The MoonWalk 2013  (#MoonWalkNYC) will take place on Saturday, July 20.  It will attract thousands of men and women to power walk the streets of NYC to raise money for breast cancer research and other initiatives.  Participants will be walking in bras.  Yes, even the men.  I’m not talking WonderBras here, but glitzy, goofy, put-your-eyes-out bras.  It sounds fun and corny and over-the-top different.

Now, why would I choose a fundraiser like this?  Well, if you know me, you know I would not be caught dead in public in anything resembling a bra for any reason whatsoever.  However, breast cancer strikes a sore spot with me.  My best friend, Marilyn Lane, died of breast cancer at the very young age of 36, just a few weeks shy of her 37th birthday.  My oldest daughter is named after her (Rose is their middle name), and I was pregnant with my second daughter when she died.  Words cannot describe the disappointment I feel when I think of how much my girls have missed in not knowing her.  She was a special person.  And that’s the understatement of the century.

So, I signed up to promote this fundraiser, even though I cannot participate personally.  Perhaps you can walk The MoonWalk.  If you do, let me know.  I’ll cheer you on.  Or maybe you could walk in a local event supporting breast cancer research.  I plan to find something local to do, but since we’re in a new area it might not pan out right away.  I wish I could do the MoonWalk.  It sounds like something Marilyn would have liked.  Now, she would totally have put on a bra with flashing lights and proudly walked right down the middle of the street.  Did I say that she was the most fun ever?  I sure miss her laugh.

By promoting The MoonWalk 2013, I am eligible to win a $50 gift card or an Amazon ecertificate.  I’m not holding my breath, but I wanted you to know.
